The origins change quite a bit of the plot & how people react to you, but the actual race you pick makes less of a difference to your chosen class - basically just some minor stat bonuses. Humans get +1 strength, +1 dexterity, +1 magic, and +1 cunning. Dwarves get +1 strength, +1 dexterity, +2 constitution, and a 10% chance to resist enemy magic.
A call to bioware may or may not fix this. While I love my CE for the case and the map, I really have to say you should go for the ultimate. Getting all the DLC, Awakening and Origins for just $60 is frickin' awesome. Remember that awakening is still $30. And there are 3-6 other DLC you will probably want that are each $5-7 each.

Ultimate Edition includes all the DLCs, not just Awakening. You want that version. It may be expensive right now. You can get it between $5-10 when it's on sale, which it probably will when Steam does its summer sale.
